The Nevada St. bridge project was identified as a priority project in the 1998 Transportation System Plan (TSP) and also the 2012 TSP. The project has been estimated to cost $5.481 million dollars. The City has received $1.5 million in funding through a surface transportation grant (STP) for the project to date. The grant funding is available in October of 2016 and city staff expect engineering, permitting and construction of the project to take at least 3 years.
The project consists of roadway, sidewalk and bike lane improvement along east and west Nevada St. along with construction of a bridge over Bear Creek.
The connection serves multiple purposes. First it creates a multimodal east west connection for Nevada St. The project will also serve as the Greenway connection as the Greenway expands towards east Ashland in the future. In addition, this connection was identified in the TSP as a future RVTD internal circulator route for Ashland.
