City of Ashland, Oregon / Community Development / Conservation Division / Adopt A Street/Storm Drain Stenciling Programs

Adopt A Street/Storm Drain Stenciling Programs

Ashland residents take pride in their beautiful city, placing a high priority on the quality of the environment. You can join others in playing an active role to keep Ashland clean and liveable by signing up for the City's Adopt A Street Program.

If your business, service club, school, or organization would like to participate in this program, simply call 552-2063 for an application and to find out what arterial or collector street segments are available for adoption. Groups are asked to adopt a street for a minimum of one year and to conduct litter clean-up events at least every three months. The City will provide groups with litterbags, safety vests and gloves, and safety signs to post while cleaning the street.

Individual residents, neighborhoods and families are also encouraged to adopt streets in their neighborhoods. They are asked to adopt the street for at least one year and can clean it on an "as needed" basis. (This is an easy thing to do if you take regular walks!) To sign up for this program, call 552-2305 for an application.

Groups or individuals interested in the Adopt A Street Program may also be interested in the City's Storm Drain Stenciling Program. The purpose of this program is to help prevent water pollution and protect fish and wildlife by stenciling the words "Dump No Waste - Drains to Stream" on storm drains. These words serve to remind citizens that everything entering Ashland Storm drains flows directly, untreated, into streams and waterways and is potentially hazardous to fish and water quality.

Adopt A Street participants may want to stencil the storm drains on their adopted street, or other volunteers may be asked to perform this task. All equipment to do the stenciling is provided by the City, and should be done during dry weather.

For more information on these programs, contact the Conservation staff at 552-2062.
