Disruption to Ashland Pond Primary Access Trail

CITY OF ASHLAND WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT - Disruptions to Ashland Pond Primary Access Path/Walking Trail between January 31 and February 4, 2022

The primary access path to Ashland Pond and the walking trail along the west embankment of the pond will be closed between January 31 and February 4, 2022.  The temporary closure will occur while the City removes trees in preparation for upcoming construction to relocate the outfall of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). Trees within the area affected by excavation activities for the new pipe trench have been identified and tagged. While most of the trees identified for removal were badly damaged or killed in the Almeda Fire, several live trees remain and will not survive construction.

Trail users will continue to have access to the footpath located north of the primary access trail. The footpath is approximately parallel to the bank of Ashland Creek, and terminates at Ashland Pond. Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission maintains the footpath throughout the year. See alternate route map

Background: The outfall is the location where treated water from the WWTP is discharged into the creek. The City is being required to move the outfall of the WWTP from Ashland Creek to Bear Creek to comply with state and federal water quality regulations. Construction of the new outfall and pipe alignment is expected to begin in June 2022.

The City of Ashland will continue to inform the public and coordinate with stakeholders as more information becomes available regarding the actual construction schedule. More information will be available at ashland.or.us/healthycreeks, including updates on trail disruption dates.
