City of Ashland Controlled Burn off Lithia Loop Road - Friday, April 26th
The City of Ashland will conduct two controlled underburns starting at noon on Friday, April 26th just above the swimming reservoir at the end of Granite Street in the lower Ashland Watershed off USFS Road 2060 (Lithia Loop Road).
Underburns mimic the role of low burning, natural fires that were used by the Shasta and Takelma tribes for thousands of years in what is now Ashland. Underburns cycle nutrients, reduce fire danger, and maintain many years of work invested in restoring open, healthy forests. The City of Ashland has been a pioneer on our community forests since the mid 1990’s in implementing active stewardship of our watershed forests to protect and conserve our community and drinking water source.
No trails or roads will be closed. Smoke is not anticipated to impact the community, though neighborhoods directly adjacent to the burn area may occasionally smell smoke in the afternoon and evening hours. See www.smokewiseashland.org for information about smoke and health.
