City of Springfield sends request for mutual aid as recent winter weather damages their electrical system.
On Sunday, January 14, 2024, the City of Springfield requested aid from other municipalities in Oregon. Extreme winter weather over the weekend has damaged parts of the electrical system for Springfield.
Early Monday morning on January 15, a 4-person crew from Ashland left for Springfield, armed with the tools and equipment needed to help restore services for the citizens of Springfield. The Ashland team is expected to be in Springfield for the remainder of the week, and possibly into next week. On Thursday, January 18, the cities of Forest Grove and McMinnville also sent mutual aid.
“When I received the email from the General Manager at Springfield Utility Board, I quickly pulled a crew together. Our team has been working long hours, in tough conditions,” stated Thomas McBartlett, Director of the City of Ashland Electric Department. “I’m pleased that we are able to offer mutual aid to other cities in need.”
