The Community Development Department received a proposal to utilize a portion of the remaining balance of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to complete fall prevention and safety repairs to homes occupied by income eligible seniors and peoples with disabilities. The Housing and Human Services Commission reviewed the proposal at a meeting held on June 28, 2018. The Housing and Human Services Commission expressed strong support for the proposal and unanimously voted to recommend approval and full funding of the proposal.
The Ashland City Council reviewed the proposal and the Commission's recommendation at a business meeting held on August 7, 2018. The City Council approved a motion to fully fund Ashland Fire and Rescue's Housing Safety Program for Seniors and Peoples with Disabilities with $50,000 in CDBG funding. The addition of this activity constitutes a substantial change to the City of Ashland's 2018 Annual Action Plan for the use of Community Development Block Grant funds. As such the City is welcoming comments from the public regarding this additional proposed use of CDBG funds. Comments will be accepted until September 3, 2018 at 3PM. Any comments received will be forwarded to HUD for review. Below is a PDF of the Housing Safety Program Proposal. All comments should be submitted to Linda Reid, Housing Program Specialist at 20 E. Main street, Ashland, OR 97520, by email at reidl@ashland.or.us, or by phone at 541-552-2043. Lastly, comments can be submitted in person to the Community Development building at 51 Winburn Way.
