Construction Guidelines


Whether you are building a new fence or deck, constructing an addition onto your home, or building an entire new home or subdivision, the City of Ashland has construction requirements that must be followed to comply with Ashland's Wildfire Safety Ordinance.

If you are planning landscaping around new construction:

A separate Resolution was adopted to identify specific plant species to be included on the Prohibited Flammable Plants List. Ashland's Wildfire Safety Ordinance prohibits new plantings of any plant species listed on the. Prohibited Flammable Plants List

Additionally, the Prohibited Flammable Plants List distinguishes between plants that are not allowed anywhere within 30 feet of structures, and specific flammable plant varieties that can be sparingly planted outside of five feet from structures when following spacing guidelines for General Fuels Modification Areas.

The City also has several construction recommendations. At this point in time, these are only recommendations, not requirements. However, the recommendations provided in the document below are considered best practices for homes in wildfire prone areas, like Ashland.
