Possible ordinance change could affect natural gas usage in new homes

Natural Gas The City of Ashland’s Climate and Environment Policy Advisory Committee (CEPAC) is set to hold meetings on a possible ordinance that could affect natural gas usage in new residential buildings.

In March 2023, the Rogue Climate Action Team, a youth-based climate organization, presented the Ashland City Council with a draft ordinance to limit new natural gas usage in the city. At that meeting the Council directed CEPAC to study the idea of passing such an ordinance. CEPAC has been gathering information on this subject and now seeks public input on the topic.

CEPAC will hold two sessions to present information about the topic, answer questions and listen to residents and interested parties on their thoughts and concerns about the topic. The Chair of CEPAC and City staff will be at both sessions. To allow for better participation, two identical sessions will be held at different times and dates. If you are unable to attend either session, there will be an opportunity to provide written comments to the committee through an online form.

The first session is on Wednesday, October 18, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The second session will be on Thursday, October 26, from Noon to 1:30 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the Council Chambers located at 1175 East Main St in Ashland.
