SOU, Forth and the City of Ashland have partnered to bring an electric vehicle carshare to Ashland!

The
City of Ashland has partnered with
Southern Oregon University (SOU) and
Forth to bring an electric vehicle carshare to Ashland! The goal is to provide access to affordable, all-electric cars for community members to test drive or use for personal use.
Carsharing is a system where individuals have access to a network of vehicles for short-term rental.
Chad Woodward, the new
Climate and Energy Analyst for the City of Ashland says, “This carshare allows people a climate-friendly and affordable way to rent a car. It also provides the opportunity to try an electric car before committing to one! As a bonus, the fuel is included.”
All you need to do is download the
Miocar Network app, create an account, and take a brief orientation to use the car. Your first, 4-hour ride is free! After that, it is only $4/hour or $35/day!
Check out all of the details online--- Download the app, register an account, reserve and more! The car is located 390 Wightman St in Ashland (the SOU parking lot located next to The Hawk Dining Hall and the SOU Student Recreation Center).
Becs Walker, Director of Sustainability at SOU added, "It is great to be able to partner with
City of Ashland and
Forth to provide access to an electric car for community members to test drive or use for errands, shopping or appointments. This helps with access to an electric vehicle as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
This electric carshare project is part of a new nationwide pilot program called
GoForth that was created by Forth.
Forth's mission is to electrify transportation by bringing people together to create solutions that reduce pollution and barriers to access.
Ashland is the most recent location of the 10 active locations and
GoForth already has four future locations planned. Electric cars drive much like traditional cars. The pedals, steering wheel and controls are the same, but they are fueled by electricity instead of gas. They charge through a plug, just like your phone.
“We are better together!”
