UPDATE 2/16/22 9:30AM: A five person crew is working today (Wednesday) to extinguish remaining smoke and burning debris. Some lingering smoke will be in the area this week and we'll be monitoring the burn. Please do not call 911 unless you see a large area with actively burning fire outside of the small rings where brush piles burned. All trails are open, though smoke can be dense at times but generally diminishing today and tomorrow.
On Tuesday, February 15th there will be a controlled burn to lower fire danger to the Ashland community and Ashland’s drinking water source. The pile burn on City of Ashland forestlands will be located on the edge of town, less than a mile above upper Lithia Park and will impact trail use in the morning. Trails will still be smoky in the afternoon, but not closed.
The following trails will be CLOSED until noon for public safety: Bandersnatch, Snark, BTI, Red Queen and Jub Jub. Waterline and Jabberwocky will experience some smoke but will not close.
Please avoid these areas on Wednesday if you are sensitive to smoke or have any concerns about smoke exposure. Neighboring homes on Terrace St, Glenview Dr, and Ashland Loop Road may smell occasional smoke. Please close windows if you smell smoke. If you are smoke sensitive, smell smoke outside and have to be out, we advise wearing an N95 mask for protection. See www.smokewiseashland.org for more on smoke and health.
Thanks for your patience. We are excited to get this work done with the recent rain and favorable conditions of wind blowing away from town, good smoke lift, and showers predicted tomorrow morning.
