Fall Community Leaf Composting Opportunities

Compostable bags for the collection and composting of leaves are available for purchase by phone payment from Recology Ashland at 541-482-1471. Inquiries may also be directed to customerservice103@recology.com. The biodegradable bags are $14.50 for a set of five bags, which include free curbside pickup by Recology. Each bag is nearly three feet tall and can hold up to 35 pounds of leaves.

From October 11th through October 29th a set of five bags may be purchased through Recology with the information available above for $10.00/set. There is a limit of two sets per household at the discounted price. This discount is made possible by the City of Ashland, the City of Talent, and Recology.

The compostable bags, for leaves only, will be picked up on regular garbage collection/green debris and recycling days. Customers who do not pay forGreen Debris service, will need to contact  Recology Ashland to schedule the pickup of their bags. Any leftover bags can be used at any point in the year.

Street sweeping is not a community wide leaf pick-up program. Property owners are responsible for removing and disposing of fallen leaves on their property and adjacent sidewalks and should not blow or rake leaves into the street or right of way. The prepaid leaf bag program is an opportunity for those who are unable to take advantage of the free leaf collection days on two Sundays - November 21st and December 12th - at Ashland’s Valley View Transfer Station on 3000 N. Valley View Road, from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, and from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm at Talent City Hall on 110 E. Main Street on Saturday, December 4th. Please arrive with your identification and be prepared to empty your bags of leaves yourself and take your bags back home with you.

Participating in annual leaf composting events and services are a simple but important action we can all take to improve water quality in our streams, reduce fire risk near our homes, and create rich compost for our gardens. Recology, the City of Ashland, and the City of Talent thank you for taking advantage of these leaf composting opportunities.
