A draft of the
Ashland Forestlands Climate Change Adaptation Project: Phase 1 document is now available. You can also go to the Ashland Forest Plan page at
www.ashland.or.us/forestplan to see the project plan link and previous work on the 2016 Ashland Forest Plan and the recent 2023 Climate Change Addendum to the Ashland Forest Plan.
The new project planning document tiers off the Ashland Forest Plan and Climate Change Addendum, with background a proposed actions to help our forests transition as the effects from climate change and past forest management are playing out. The
recent survey of Ashland's community forests show significant die-off in Douglas-fir, a regional trend called the
Douglas-fir decline spiral. Forests are changing quickly and that's resulting in escalating fire danger to the community as well as negative ecological trends in our forests.
A comment period is open until November 7th when the plan will be presented to the City Council. Instructions on how to comment are included in the document.
