SUMMARY OF FEBRUARY 5th ECONOMIC VISION WORK

Project Manager Adam Hanks distributed several handouts to the group including: 1) Sample strategies from the cities of Portland, Corvallis, Beaverton and Baker City; 2) the draft TAC vision statements; 3) a summary of the Policy Group’s Vision and Values discussion; and 4) the draft City Council Vision and Values statements.

City Administrator Martha Bennett spoke to the purpose of today’s meeting and asked that the members break out into smaller groups and brainstorm ideas for the City’s economic development strategy. In particular, she asked that they focus on its relationship with the business sector. Ms. Bennett explained there will likely be two more meetings of this group before the process moves into the public comment period. She noted at their next meeting staff will provide the draft Vision Statement and trends, and will also bring back strategic goal options for them to review and pare down.

Mr. Holt thanked staff for providing Portland’s economic development strategy. He stated for Ashland’s model to be successful they need to keep in mind how it connects with these other strategies and encouraged them to keep in mind what is being done in Portland as they move forward.

FINISH ECONOMIC VISION – DEVELOP STRATEGIES

The members broke out into separate groups and spent the remainder of the meeting in smaller groups discussing their ideas for possible economic development strategies. Small group discussion was captured by staff on flipcharts and will be transcribed to a document and attached for final approval of these minutes.
