SERVICES Available through Ashland Senior Services Division
Ashland Senior Services Division Staff
Services to support seniors and family caregivers are available at Ashland Senior Center or via phone or email. Services are provided directly by our staff and trained volunteers or in collaboration with our many partners from other local community organizations. Information & Referral:  We help seniors and family caregivers find local resources to meet their evolving needs. By phone or walk in.

Resource Consultation: Senior Services Division staff are available for one-on-one resource consultations to help you get connected to the help you need. Call to make a phone or in-person appointment to learn about public and private services and programs that fit your personal situation. 
 
Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA): Specially trained volunteers from our partner Community Volunteer Network offer free assistance with Medicare, supplemental plan and prescription plan choices. SHIBA is funded by a federal grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. Call SHIBA at 541.857.7780 to make a phone appointment or for more information. In-person appointments available at Ashland Senior Center on Tuesdays.
 
Advance Directives Assistance: Get help preparing or updating your advance directives.  Instructor will review the guidelines and help you fill out the required forms.  The expert volunteer can also help you think through what choices are important to you at the end of life and who is the best person to appoint as your representative should you be incapacitated at a future date. By appointment.

 
Computer Tutoring

Computer, Tablet and Phone Instruction: Learn about apps, how to set up email, surf the web, create documents or just become more comfortable with computer basics. Mondays and Thursdays by appointmentPhone appointments also available. 
 
Free Passes for RVTD Bus or Valley Lift: Prepaid UMO cards are available to eligible Ashland seniors 62 and older.
 
Senior Utility & Internet Discounts: Offered by City of Ashland for low-income utility and/or internet customers over age 65, or over age 60 with disability. Call for more information. Application assistance available by appointment.
 
Mike Hersh Memorial Food Pantry: Our small food pantry was established in 2022 in memory of Mike Hersh, a long-time volunteer who was passionate about providing food for those in need. Our partner Ashland Community Food Bank supplies our small food pantry weekly to help our patrons stretch their food budgets.

Ashland Community Food Bank also offers a free monthly food box, and seniors may request home delivery if needed. Inquire at 541-488-9544.
 
Free Library: Enjoy our lending library of donated books, DVDs, magazines and jigsaw puzzles.
 
Ashland Senior Phone Buddy: Add more fun and connection to your life by letting us match you to a volunteer for regular check-ins and socializing by phone. We also welcome volunteer applications for this program.  Note: Due to changing availability, there may be a wait to be matched to a volunteer or buddy.  New volunteers must wait until the next volunteer training to start. ►learn more
 
Dementia Caregiver Support Group: This support group meets every third Wednesday of the month, by Zoom with a phone-in option. Call to register.
 
Community Garden: Two raised beds are available for a small summer rental fee.
 
Seniors Celebrating Creativity: Our rotating exhibit showcases a local senior artist every few months.
 
Newsletter: Call to sign up for our free monthly Senior News via mail or email. Learn about our current activities and events, helpful local resources, and ways to stay safe and healthy.

Food & Friends Lunch Program: 
Our partner Rogue Valley Council of Governments (RVCOG) offers in-person dining at Ashland Senior Center. A nutritious lunch meal is currently served Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $2.75 for older adults over 60, and a charge of $6.75 for those under 60. For more information, please call the Food & Friends Ashland site coordinator at 541.488.9850.
 
Food & Friends also offers Meals on Wheels home delivery for qualified seniors. Call Food & Friends at 541.734.9505 for more information and to apply.
