Tombstone Tales 2013
A Volunteer Community Education Living History Program
Presented by the Ashland Historic Railroad Museum
June 30, July 1, and July 7 and 8
One hour tours beginning at 4 pm at the Ashland Cemetery on East Main Street
Imagine walking through an old cemetery, reading the tombstones, wondering about the folks buried there, what their lives were like, what they thought, did, and achieved. Visit the Tombstone Tales in Ashland’s Historic cemetery on East Main and experience the past as our ancestors come to “life” to tell you their stories.
Tombstone Tales is an educational project of the Ashland Historic Railroad Museum (a 501c3 non-profit organization) which highlights the history of Ashland and the Rogue Valley through living history enactments in the Ashland Cemetery. Actors dressed in period costume portray past residents of the area based on documentary research. New character roles are acted every year.
Costumed guides lead the audience from station to station to listen to the 5 minute scripts by the actors. Some of the characters stand by the graves of the actual people being portrayed. The program is an all-volunteer effort that includes researchers, script-writers, actors, tour guides, publicity and other jobs. Approximately 60 volunteers take part each year. Tickets are $10.00, Children $2.00. Tickets are available through the Ashland Parks and Recreation catalogue summer issue, and at the gate. Proceeds go to the Museum to enhance its educational mission.
