City Seeks Volunteers for WRAP

Volunteer Today! Ashland Fire & Rescue is Seeking New Recruits for WRAP

Become a Wildfire Risk Assessment Volunteer! “It takes all of us, working together, to adapt to wildfire,” stated Brian Hendrix, Fire Adapted Communities Coordinator for the City of Ashland, “and we need more volunteers to make this happen!”

The City of Ashland is seeking new volunteer recruits for the Wildfire Risk Assessment Program, also known as WRAP. The program began in 2021 and is orchestrated by Fire Adapted Ashland and Ashland Fire & Rescue.

All too often in recent years, communities throughout the western United States have faced the devastating consequences of extreme wildfire, including right here in Southern Oregon. There is a critical need to improve our ability to withstand the presence of wildfire in and around our communities, and much of the work starts at home. In this training, learn how to identify and reduce wildfire risks through understanding how homes ignite and burn during extreme wildfires.

As a volunteer with Ashland Fire & Rescue (AF&R) you can directly assist residents of Ashland to identify and prioritize wildfire risks around their home and property. The WRAP volunteers are an invaluable asset in the community engagement efforts for creating a more Fire Adapted Ashland.

If you want to be actively involved with reducing wildfire risks in Ashland, this is your chance! The ideal candidate is a “people person” who is passionate about helping Ashland become fire resilient. If this sounds like a good fit for you, please review the volunteer expectations  and apply today to be a part of the Ashland Wildfire Risk Assessment Program! Complete information at ashland.or.us/WRAP.

No background or experience is required. Training is accomplished by a combination of in-person classes, at-home study materials, a field trip and mentored field assignments. Training is slated to kick off on Wednesday, March 1, and graduates should be certified by spring 2023.

Fire Adapted Ashland and AF&R work closely with local partners to bring awareness and education to residents and businesses to better prepare for wildfire, including before, during and after a fire. View the growing list of community partnerships.
