Grand Opening of the Ashland Japanese Garden on Sat, Oct 22

Japanese Garden Grand Opening
GRAND OPENING
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22
LITHIA PARK
1:00 PM

Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission (APRC) and the Ashland Parks Foundation will host a Grand Opening of the renovated Ashland Japanese Garden from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

For thousands of years, Japanese gardens have been carefully designed to inspire calm, encourage wonder, symbolize renewal and heal the soul. Incorporating water, rocks, plants and simple ornamentation, a Japanese garden brings these elements together to create a tranquil retreat. Rooted in traditional philosophies, Japanese gardens are designed for quiet meditation in nature, a place for peaceful contemplation and the discovery of universal truths.

The Ashland Japanese Garden is located in historic Lithia Park up from the Butler Memorial Bandshell on Winburn Way across from the Pickleball Courts. Entry to the Ashland Japanese Garden is free, but your support helps to maintain the garden, allowing it to expand and grow. Donations may be made online.

Opening remarks will begin at 1 p.m., followed by self-guided tours through the garden.  Food Trucks will be on-site for the afternoon. Ashland Taiko will perform at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Winburn Way near the Butler-Memorial Bandshell. Elbow Room Taiko will perform at 4:30 p.m. to conclude this opening day celebration!

Winburn Way through Lithia Park will be closed before and during the event and parking will be limited. There will be a small amount of parking for those with limited mobility available near the upper Duck Pond at the intersection of Granite St and Windburn Way.

The following exhibits will take place across for the garden entrance:
  • Ikebana – The art of Japanese Flower Arrangement with Makiko and Tsutae
  • Bonsai – Presented by Bonsai groups in Southern Oregon
  • Ashland Parks Foundation – Learn more about how you can support Ashland Parks

Please visit the new Ashland Japanese Garden website, AshlandJapaneseGarden.org, to donate or for more information on the garden. The website includes the history of the garden, information about the generous donations that made this authentic Japanese Garden possible, the designer and more.

The garden is dedicated to Béatrice Marechal, in the hope that you will find joy in the beauty, peace and nature of this very special place.
