A Cooling Shelter will be opening on Monday July 25th and will be open through July 30th. The Shelter will be located in the GRESHAM Room of the Ashland Public Library. Shelter hours vary throughout the week. Later cooling shelter start times reflect the availability of the public library to provide some measure of respite during regular hours of operation and until the shelter opens.
Monday, July 25th, the shelter will be open from 2:00-7:30 PM
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, (July 26-28th) the shelter will be open from 4:00-7:30 PM.
Friday July 29th the shelter will be open from 1:00 PM-8:00 PM
Saturday July 30th the shelter will be open from 2:00-7:30 PM.
Service animals will be allowed but must be kept on leashes. The shelter will be staffed by community volunteers who have requested that guests be mindful of other's health needs, therefore masks will be provided on site. Donations of water and other cooling refreshments are welcomed and will be accepted at the shelter location during hours of operation.
During the upcoming extreme weather event the City will be offering some additional resources to help citizens stay safe and find relief from the extreme conditions.
The Ashland Police Department will have water bottles available to those in need. Officers will carry additional water bottles with them and will be looking for opportunities to assist those that might be vulnerable heat exhaustion or could benefit from some proactive assistance. Fire Station 1 will have water available for those in need.
The Ashland Parks and Recreation Department provides information about how to find respite in the parks during extreme heat. Those resources can be found here: Find Respite in a Park
