Ashland Forest Resiliency Fall 2019: Over 1,000 Acres Completed. See Our TED Talk!

Greetings everyone and Happy Holidays!  We just celebrated winter solstice and now our days are getting longer, with summer just around the corner, the Ashland Forest Resiliency has been hard at work to create resilient, healthy forests and a safer community.

Since September, forestry crews from Lomakatsi Restoration Project have cut and piled flammable brush and small trees on 430 acres in the Ashland Watershed. Led by the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, burn crews from Grayback Forestry and Lomakatsi burned 458 acres of brush piles on U.S. Forest Service public land in our municipal watershed. Separately,  Lomakatsi crews burned piles on 338 acres of private lands in around the community and Ashland Watershed. Workers are now taking a deserved holiday break.

Our recent work funded by Oregon Lottery through the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, connects past forest restoration work together in a growing network of fuel breaks to control summer wildfires. After months of planning, AFR partners worked on 1,226 acres…just since September! We have a busy winter and spring planned with lots of burning to make us safer come summer. Stay tuned.
