Controlled Burn Season Starts Today, Monday Dec. 2nd
Continuing into our 10th year of working to protect Ashland and our forests from summer wildfires, the AFR Stewardship Project will conduct a controlled burn of slash piles today, December 2nd, on Frank Hill Road in the Ashland Mine neighborhood just west of town above Hwy 99 and Valley View Rd intersection. Smoke will be visible throughout the day and may intensify in the early evening along Hwy 99 between Ashland and Talent. This burn is the first of the burn season that will last until fire season begins in June of 2020.
Controlled burning is a critical part of creating a safer, more resilient landscape in the face of climate change. To sign up for notifications, please go to www.ashlandwatershed.org or for easy text based notifications each burn day simply text the word "WATERSHED" in the message line to 888777 as the recipient. You will get an automatic confirmation from Nixle, the City's community alerting service.
People sensitive to smoke should protect themselves should smoke affect the community. Smokewise Ashland has resources to help protect you and your family.
AFR is a ten-year stewardship project designed to reduce the risk of severe wildfire in the watershed and to protect water quality, older forests, wildlife, people, property and quality of life.
