Ashland Parks and Recreation is developing a new Nature Play Area at North Mountain Park in

Ashland. Knife River Materials began construction began on Monday, September 23, 2019.
Ashland Parks and Recreation is inspired to create a play space that is safe for families, where kids can play freely in nature while manipulating natural materials, with little to no impact to the wildlife habitat at North Mountain Park. Highlights of the new Natural Play Area will include:
- Ground water pump
- Water channels that lead into a sand-play area
- Fort building area
- Craft table
- Willow tunnel
- Cut stump path for hopping
- Log boardwalk
- Log balancing beams
- Boulder climber
Funds for this project were raised through grants and donations, many made through the Ashland Parks Foundation. “The support for this project was amazing,” stated Katharine Cato, President of the Ashland Parks Foundation. “The fact that this project was 100% funded by grants and donations shows how important the Ashland Parks System is to this community.”
