Fire Season Ends effective today, Wednesday Oct 26, 2022
Fire Season Ends Effective October 26, 2022 Fire Prevention Continues
The 2022 fire season ended, Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 12:01 a.m. on lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Southwest Oregon District and Ashland Fire & Rescue.
The termination of fire season removes fire prevention regulations on equipment use and the use of fire for debris burning. This applies to the public and industrial operations on forestlands. However, Ashland Fire & Rescue still requires permits for debris burning; please call the fire department to obtain the necessary permit before burning.
There will be NO BURNING and NO permits issued after November 1, 2022
While fire season is finally over, we strongly remind you that fire prevention must continue. Fall weather in Southern Oregon can vary greatly and there is still a lot of dry vegetation that can readily burn that may be near your home. Continue to remove dry vegetation build up around your home and accessory structures, including old branch piles and leftover unmanaged weeds, grasses and wildflowers from summer season that are dry and still standing and adjacent to walls and wood decks. Please use caution while using machinery that could produce a spark.
The following restrictions are still in effect throughout the City of Ashland:
Outdoor Debris Burning is Prohibited without an inspection and permit
Fireworks are prohibited at all times, throughout the year within the City of Ashland
Sky Lanterns are prohibited at all times, throughout the year within the City of Ashland
Campfires are allowed in designated campgrounds, and on private property with the landowner’s permission in an approved fire appliance (fire pan, chiminea, etc..)
Ashland Fire & Rescue asks that all Ashland residents remember the Ready, Set, Go! evacuation levels. Get prepared for the possibility of evacuation at READY or Level 1. Be READY now by preparing an emergency and personal supplies kit, develop an evacuation plan, and become Firewise by removing combustible plants and debris around your home and from the roof. Find more information about Ready, Set, Go! at ashland.or.us/evacuation and sign up for Nixle emergency notifications at ashland.or.us/nixle.
