Extreme Heat Expected-Cooling Shelter Opening

A Cooling Shelter will be available Sunday June 26th through Thursday July 1st.  The Shelter will be located at 48 Fifth Street in Ashland.  The Shelter will be open from 12:00 PM-8:30 PM.  Animals will be allowed but must be kept on leashes.  The shelter will be staffed by community volunteers who have requested that guests be mindful of other's health needs, therefore masks will be required.  Community volunteers also ask guests to be respectful to neighbors by not loitering on or near property.  Donations of water and cold foods are needed and will be accepted at the shelter location during hours of operation.

During the upcoming extreme weather event the City will be offering some additional resources to help citizens stay safe and find relief from the extreme conditions.

The Ashland Police Department will have water bottles available to those in need.  Officers will carry additional water bottles with them and will be looking for opportunities to assist those that might be vulnerable heat exhaustion or could benefit from some proactive assistance.

Ashland Fire and Rescue will have water bottles outside of each fire station for those needing cooling hydration.

The Ashland Parks and Recreation Department provides information about how to find respite in the parks during extreme heat.  Those resources can be found here: Find Respite in a Park
