Lithia Park’s iconic Butler Bandshell will be closed to the public from November 13, 2017 until mid-March, 2018. During this period, Public Works will be managing the construction of long overdue repairs, improvements, and upgrades. Work will include repairs to damaged interior floors, walls, and decking; replacement and strengthening of rotting wood members and cladding; rehabilitation of failing roofs and interior ceilings; and replacement of all exterior features on the ceiling of the bandshell’s cantilevered overhang, including sound baffles, suspension items, and lighting fixtures. During construction Parks and Recreation will maintain pedestrian detours, and they may also use the closure as an opportunity to repair a damaged stretch of the walkway near the bandshell.
The project design strives to ensure that the refurbished bandshell will not differ visually from its current condition to the casual observer, although parties that use the interior spaces of the bandshell will notice improvements in space availability and storage conditions. We wish to thank members of the Band Board for their input on some practical interior changes aimed to reduce current logistical challenges associated with band performances. We look forward to providing community with a bandshell in great condition that will function optimally for decades to come.
