UPDATE on November 9, 2020 - Due to COVID-19, the opening of the Ice Rink has been delayed. Please check our web page, ashland.or.us/IceRink, for the latest updates.

It’s that time of year again to lace up your skates and hit the ice! The Ashland Rotary CentennialAshland Rotary Centennial Ice Rink Ice Rink will officially open on Saturday, November 21, 2020. The outdoor rink, a division of Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission (APRC), is located at 95 Winburn Way, across from the Lithia Park playground, around the corner from the Plaza, and at the corner of Nutley Street and Winburn Way.

The 2020-2021 Season will look a little different this year as the rink will be opened with public health and safety in mind. APRC staff will strictly adhere to the guidelines put forth by the Oregon Health Authority Phase Two (2) Reopening Guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Many disruptions and changes to our lives have occurred in the past six months and it is our hope that the opening of the outdoor ice rink will help bring some enjoyment back to the community and help you find your holiday spirit in Ashland’s season of celebration,” stated Lonny Flora, Recreation Manager for APRC.

In order to keep the community safe and utilize resources responsibly, several state mandated changes will be implemented this season, from how the rink operates to how community members will be allowed access to the ice. “We want to make sure you are prepared to visit the rink and get the most enjoyment out of your experience. Please plan to visit ashland.or.us/IceRink BEFORE every trip to the rink. It will be important to review information about changes in participation requirements, scheduling and programs. We can’t emphasize enough to check the schedule BEFORE coming out to the rink (for every visit), as schedules can change daily,” said Flora. For a complete list of public health guidelines for outdoor recreation visit the website at ashland.or.us/IceRink.

Another notable change this year is that the ice rink will not be covered. While businesses and community members wrestle with the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating aftermath of the Almeda Fire, the expense of putting up and taking the cover down for the ice rink is not a responsible use of community resources at this time. Not having the cover over the ice will result in an increased amount of closures and APRC will keep information updated on the webpage regularly, ashland.or.us/IceRink.

“Considering all the changes and challenges we are facing to provide ice skating opportunities we are striving to excel in our communication this season to help you determine how and when visiting the ice rink will be right for you. Again, we encourage everyone to go to ashland.or.us/IceRink before each visit to stay up-to-date on our operating hours, participation requirements and all of the things we are doing to keep our community safe while still being able to get outside and have fun this winter. Consider book marking ashland.or.us/IceRink for easy reference throughout the season and be sure to tell your friends and family,” stated Rachel Dials, Recreation Superintendent for APRC. Once the rink is open you can also call ahead to get information on recreational skating times, when to arrive and what to expect. The direct line to the rink, after November 21, is 541.552.2258. The rink will be open through February 2021. If you have questions before November 21, please email ParksInfo@ashland.or.us or call 541.488.5340.

APRC hopes you can experience one of the most magical places in Ashland… that little outdoor rink in beautiful Lithia Park, where the air is fresh, and the white lights are twinkling. May you find your holiday spirit in Ashland’s season of celebration!
