Sergeant John Perrone grew up in the Willamette Valley, where he attended Cottage Grove High
School. After high school he attended Lane Community College where he became a certified PADI Rescue Diver and Divemaster prior to enlisting in the United States Coast Guard. John spent six years on active duty as a Helicopter Flight Mechanic and conducted many multi-jurisdictional operations all over the western hemisphere; including large scale drug interdiction operations, fisheries patrols, and search & rescue operations. While enlisted in the Coast Guard John received his Associate of Arts Degree from Coastline Community College in Fountain Valley, CA, and earned leadership and management certificates from the Coast Guard Leadership Development Center and the FEMA Institute.
After an Honorable Discharge from the United States Coast Guard as a 1st Class Petty Officer, John began his career with the Ashland Police Department in June of 2008. During his time with APD John has served as a Patrol Officer, Central Area Patrol Officer, and a Major Crimes Detective. John has been a member of the Jackson County Major Assault and Death Investigations Unit, the Southern Oregon Financial Fraud and Security Team, a Mobile Device Forensic Analyst, a You Have Options Sexual Assault Response Program Trainer, and a certified Child Forensic Interviewer at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Jackson County.
John is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys hiking and backpacking with his children, all types of motorcycle and ATV riding, and has continuously practiced various forms of Martial Arts since age 7. He also volunteers as a Merit Badge Counselor in several areas of expertise with the Boy Scouts of America - Crater Lake Council.
