Visit the City of Ashland’s New Water Wise Landscaping Website
The City’s Conservation Division has developed a resourceful, user friendly website that helps people design their landscapes with plants that use less water.
The new Water Wise Landscaping website is designed to inspire the creation of landscapes that incorporate native species and other water wise plants that are not only attractive, but are capable of using less water than traditional lawns. It serves as a virtual demonstration garden that showcases examples from local residents as well as provides useful information and resources on water efficient gardening concepts.
One feature of the site is the Garden Gallery section, which provides you with ideas on how to landscape a specific area of your property. Categories include front yards, backyards, hillsides, walkways, arbors, fences, decks, dry creek beds and much more.
Within each picture, some of the plants are highlighted with a hotlink. You can hover over it with the mouse or click on it for more detailed information. If you decide you like the plant, then you can add it to your saved plant list. Once you have your list complete, you can print it out to give to your landscaper or take it to a local nursery.
There are several plant categories such as fire-wise and deer resistant plants, as well as an extensive plant database listed alphabetically. This section of the site also enables you to search for plants based on plant type, size, color, sun need, soil type, and blooming season.
In addition to plant information, there are numerous pages on irrigation design and maintenance. There is also a guide on how and when to water, making it easier to develop your own watering schedule.
