Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest will continue an Ashland Forest Resiliency controlled burn at high elevation on Tuesday, May 16th. Smoke will be highly visible throughout town and the valley. The controlled burn is located in the Horn Gap area on the west side of the Ashland Watershed. Safely conducted controlled burning is part of a strategy for removing fuels now before summer wildfire season.  

Sections of the USFS 2060 and 2060-200 roads along with Horn Gap and Rickety trails may be impacted by drifting smoke. Due to traffic, ongoing burn operations and smoke; please avoid the upper trails on the west side of the watershed. Alternative trails include Four Corners and Eastview Trail.

Smoke Impact: Horn gap and Rickety Trails may have smoke and parts of USFS 2060 and 2060-200. Smoke could move into town in the evening hours. If you smell smoke, take action and close windows and doors. Please avoid the west side of the watershed if you are sensitive to smoke. See where smoke is moving on the watershed camera.

Burn Location: Areas directly affected by controlled burning or smoke include the west side of the Ashland Loop Road (Forest Road 2060 and 2060-200). Trails to avoid include Rickety and Horn Gap.

Duration of Burn Operations: Crews will begin in the morning on Tuesday, May 16th and continue into the early afternoon.
