Controlled Burning Continues Today, March 10 at Lithia and above Granite St
Controlled burns are continuing today on the Lithia Park hillside below Glenview Drive and above the 300 block of Granite Street near the Heart's Nature Trail along the irrigation ditch. Expect to see smoke in this areas and for smoke to linger into the evening as piles burn out. With recent rain today is an exceptional burn day for crews from Ashland Parks & Recreation and contracted workforce.
Recent drought and hot summers have taken a toll on our local forests, leading to unprecedented die-off. Dead trees can be a threat to trails, private property, and increase fire danger. The City and Ashland Parks are prioritizing this issue which means cutting dead and dying trees to mitigate public safety hazards and to minimize the spread of bark beetles that multiply in large numbers during droughts.
Thank you for your patience as we get this important work completed before summer fire season arrives. Smoke impacts should be minimal though trails in the direct areas around burns will be impacted as can adjacent homes. Please close windows and avoid burn areas if you are sensitive to smoke.
