Bomberos
Bomberos and Amigo Club Reps and City Staff

The City of Ashland donated two decommissioned ambulances yesterday, November 17, 2022 to sister city, Guanajuato. Two bomberos, Juan Eduardo Luna Lira and Juan Armando Alvarez-Villegas, took part in a meet-and-greet at Ashland Fire Station 2 and will make the journey home in the 2006 and 2008 ambulances on November 18. Both are Captains in the Heroico Cuerpo de Bomberos Voluntarios de Guanajuato and have been volunteer fire fighters since the age of 11! In their personal lives they work as a lawyer and a veterinarian, respectively. The fire fighters expressed immense gratitude to the City of Ashland. They said the donation would be of great benefit to the citizens of Guanajuato and help save lives! Senora Chela (black jacket) is the passionate force behind the sister city relationship and one she helped forge over 53 years ago! Chela expressed the bomberos have big hearts and are here as volunteers to help the people of Guanajuato. City staff, Marshall Rasor, Deputy Chief-Operations for Ashland Fire and Rescue, and Chris Chambers, Fire Department Forestry Division Chief for Ashland Fire and Rescue, helped to facilitate the donation and welcome the bomberos. Also attending was President of the Ashland Amigo Club, Betzabe “Mina” Turner (gray sweater), and her husband, Kernan Turner, Grant Coordinator for the Amigo Club. A formal celebration with Councilors from Guanajuato is tentatively planned for the 4th of July 2023. Watch for a full story in Ashland.News
