Fire Danger Increases to Extreme on August 2nd, Public Shutdown Begins
The Oregon Department of Forestry’s Southwest Oregon District and City of Ashland will increase fire danger to Extreme (Red) on Tuesday August 2nd, at 12:01 a.m. In areas of dry vegetation, all gas-powered machinery, mowing, and welding is banned at all times of the day unless under a permit.
Work in green, irrigated landscapes is allowed at any time. Please do not call to report normal yard maintenance in irrigated landscapes.
Outdoor Debris Burning is Prohibited in Declared Fire Season
Outdoor Fire Pits and Appliances are prohibited. Propane appliances and BBQs are allowed at private residences, but public areas may be closed by Ashland Parks and Recreation.
Fireworks are prohibited throughout the year within the City of Ashland.
Sky Lanterns are prohibited throughout the year within the City of Ashland.
EXTREME Fire Danger Restrictions for City of Ashland (in areas of dry vegetation only)
Gas powered saws are banned at all times of the day in areas of dry vegetation.
Equipment used for the cutting, grinding, or welding of metal is banned.
The mowing of dry, cured grass with gas-powered equipment is banned. This regulation does not apply to farm equipment used for the culture and harvest of crops.
The use of any other spark-emitting equipment using an internal combustion engine will not be allowed at any time in areas of dry vegetation.
Smoking outdoors is allowed only in an enclosed vehicle, in a boat on the water, in irrigated landscapes, or on paved roads.
Fire-fighting equipment is required to be carried in vehicles that travel off state highways, county roads or driveways. This equipment includes one shovel and a one-gallon container of water or a fire extinguisher (2.5 lb. or larger)
Electric fence controllers must be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, be properly grounded, and tested regularly to ensure fire safe operation.
What is NOT covered by these restrictions?
Electric powered machinery such as weed whackers and electric saws
Any work (gas powered machinery included) in a green and irrigated landscape is allowed at any time during fire season.
