We are fortunate to live in a community with a local government that supports social equity and racial justice.

The City of Ashland’s Social Equity and Racial Justice Commission is seeking new members to serve on this important commission.

The City of Ashland wants all people, regardless of origin, race, color, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation faith, age, disability or income level to be accorded respect, equal opportunities, and unbiased justice to be welcome

in our community. 

The purpose of this commission is to provide recommendations and support to the City Council and the City Manager and education to the community on policies, measures and practices to foster racial and social equity and respectful intergroup relations.   

Working in a group setting requires a special skill set; listening to others, being prepared and showing up for meetings, being willing to participate in discussions, a passion for the mission of the group and a willingness to set aside personal biases to further the mission of the group.   It is important that members have the knowledge and skills required to be effective in setting the strategic direction of the commission; knowledge of planning and prioritizing, monitoring progress and managing change all through the lens of social and racial justice.
