Application Process for Replacement of Seat on the Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission

Former Ashland Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Mike Gardiner, has resigned from the Commission effective January 31, 2022. His resignation vacates Position #3 through December 31, 2022.
 
Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission (APRC) is overseen by five (5) elected officials, each serving 4-year terms.1 “The City of Ashland set aside parkland, authorized funding and established the first Board of Commissioners nearly 114 years ago,” stated APRC Director, Michael A. Black. The mission of the Parks and Recreation Commission is to provide and promote recreational opportunities and to preserve and maintain public lands. The Commission holds regular business meetings the 2nd Wednesday each month, and study sessions are typically held the 1st Wednesday of the month. All Commissioners serve on at least one APRC subcommittee focused on specific service areas offered by APRC, which include, but are not limited to Senior Services, Recreation, Parks Maintenance and Conservation, and Long-Range Planning.
 
The deadline to apply for Position #3 on the Parks and Recreation Commission is Wednesday, February 16, 5 p.m. The Commission will lead the vetting process of applications and submit three (3) ranked applications to the City of Ashland Council, which is tasked with filling vacancies of elected positions in Ashland. The appointee's term of office shall begin immediately upon appointment and shall continue until the end of current term of office. This position will be up for election in November of 2022. 1 Article XIX of the City Charter establishes the position of Park Commissioner as an elected position. Article XXII establishes the Recreation Commission and states that the positions of Recreation Commissioner shall be filled by the elected Park Commissioners.
