Postal Delivery Delays

City of Ashland utility customers may have seen a delay in receiving their utility billing statements. The USPS is facing many challenges this year that is leading to the extended delivery times we are seeing with mail. Below is a short summary of the 3 primary factors cited by the USPS:
  1. On October 15, 2021, Postmaster DeJoy implemented a logistical restructuring plan that affects delivery times nationwide. The goal being that the USPS would become less reliant on partnerships with other courier services (UPS, FedEx, and Airline Services) to help them move mail across the country.
  2. Potential supply chain issues caused many to mail items for the holiday season early. Typically the volume of mail increases exponentially around December 1st, but by November 8th, daily volume was already passing record setting volumes and continues to rise.
  3. Like many large scale employers, the USPS is struggling to maintain adequate staffing to move and deliver mail.
These factors combined are causing significant delays in the delivery of mail.

City of Ashland utility customers can sign up for electronic, emailed statements by emailing utilitybilling@ashland.or.us. Emails are generated the same day that bills become available, so you'll never miss another statement.
