California Fire Resources Staged in Ashland and Helping with Evacuation Awareness

The Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office has ordered California firefighters and engines as part of readiness for wildfires in Southern Oregon during our Extreme Fire Danger. There are ten engines with two command vehicles and nearly 50 personnel staying at Ashland exit 19 for the next week.

Though their priority is to support fires in Oregon, they will be helping with evacuation canvassing in Ashland as time allows. Expect to see their yellow and green engines in town and you may get a knock on your door as they drop off evacuation flyers. Thank you for welcoming their presence in our town.

REMINDER: Extreme Fire Danger, as declared July 14th, brings the following restrictions on activities in areas of dry vegetation only. Work in green, irrigated landscapes is not restricted.
  • No operation of gas powered machinery (including, but not limited to chainsaws, trimmers, mowers, etc...)
  • No use of spark emitting devices (welding, grinding of metal) in dry vegetation areas.
  • No smoking outside of vehicles off of paved roads. Electric powered machinery is allowed, but please be cautious and do not mow dry grass with any device that can cause a spark.

Fire season bans that remain in place include all use of open flames except backyard BBQs. Fireworks are not allowed at any time of the year inside Ashland, or on any ODF-protected land or federal lands. Complete information is at www.ashland.or.us/fireseason

Thank you for keeping Ashland safe by following fire season restrictions!
