The City of Ashland has launched an induction cooktop/range incentive program.
The incentive is for the permanent installation of a cooktop or range for residential or commercial applications. For residential accounts, there is a $150 rebate for switching from electric resistance to induction and $200 for switching from gas to induction. For commercial accounts, there is a $350 rebate for switching from electric resistance to induction and $400 for switching from gas to induction. This program is open to Ashland Electric utility customers with an active account. Our buildings contribute nearly a quarter (23.6%) of Ashland’s total emissions. This program was created to increase building energy efficiency and reduce associated greenhouse gas emissions.
Induction cooktops heat pots and pans directly through an electromagnetic field. The magnetic field strikes the iron molecules in your cookware, producing heat. This heat is only transferred between the coil and the pan, allowing induction cooking to be faster, more precise, and more efficient! Various studies have found anywhere from 75-90% of the heat generated is used for cooking. From a safety standpoint, there is no open flame or indoor air pollution that is generated from combustion.
In partnership with the Jackson County Library of Things we are donating 3 portable induction units with compatible cookware that will be included in the catalog this summer. All you need is a library card to check one out! This opportunity allows constituents to test out induction before making the switch. You can view their entire catalog at, https://jcls.myturn.com/library/
