Ashland Parks and Recreation is excited to announce a commemorative 2020 4th of July Virtual Run T-shirt, available for a limited time! The design, created by local artist Jen Hickenlooper, features a runner in patriotic colors and wearing a mask, in light of the unprecedented times we all find ourselves in. In late May, under the guidance of the Oregon Health Authority, the traditional run was canceled and a virtual run, at no charge, was offered in its place.
“This historical run is a tradition in Ashland that runs deep. The 2020 race is the 44th Annual Run, and in the long history of the race there has never been a virtual run. We hope that citizens in our local communities will share pictures of their virtual run while donning their 2020 commemorative shirt. It is a nice way for us to come together as a community at a time when we are required to physical distance,” stated Rachel Dials, Recreation Superintendent for Ashland Parks and Recreation.
Here’s what to do:
- Purchase a Virtual Run commemorative shirt by Monday, June 15 at ashland.or.us/JulyRun (Online purchase only)
- Pick up your shirt at The Grove, 1195 E Main St in Ashland on Monday, June 29 or Tuesday, June 30, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day. Please drive up to the entrance of The Grove, on the parking lot side, and staff will present your order; remain in your car and wear a face covering (Sorry, but due to staffing restraints we will not be able to mail your shirt, you must be able to pick up on June 29 or 30, no exceptions)
- Between July 1 and July 4, complete a 10K, 5K or 1-mile run in your Virtual Run 2020 shirt! Be sure to take a selfie on your run and share your photo/s on the event Facebook page, Facebook.com/AshlandJuly4thRun, and on Ashland Parks and Recreation social media, Facebook & Instagram @AshlandParksandRec.
The shirts are $25 and proceeds from shirt sales will benefit Ashland Parks and Recreation and the Phoenix High School Cross Country and Track Teams. More event information at ashland.or.us/JulyRun. Please Note: Your virtual run should be done in your neighborhood, solo or with members from your household. If your run takes you through a crowded area you should wear a mask.
