On Monday, September 16th, an Ashland Forest Resiliency (AFR) funded wildfire safety project will start in the upper Elkader and S. Mountain Ave neighborhood. Crews will be cutting small trees and brush, then piling the debris to cure for burning during cool, wet months ahead. Though unauthorized, commonly used trails that lead into the work area will be blocked for public safety.

Lomakatsi Restoration Project (LRP) crews will cut from morning until mid-day each day through September 27th at the top of Elkader Street and end of South Mountain Ave. Safety is a primary concern during this work and workers are following all fire precautions outlined by the Oregon Department of Forestry. Each crew member has fire training and will have fire tools and an extinguisher. A fire watch will take place each day after cutting stops.

The Elkader neighborhood project is on private-land and is an excellent example of AFRís work to foster healthy forests and protect our community. This project is part of over 12,000 acres of work completed since 2010 to decrease wildfire risk to homes, people, our watershed, and critical wildlife habitat.
