Ashland, OR – In preparations for the upcoming full re-paving of Hersey Street between Helman Street and North Mountain Avenue, the City of Ashland Electric Department has contracted with Knife River to install new electrical distribution system infrastructure to improve the capacity, reliability, and flexibility of the system. The new conduit and utility vaults will require the closure of the bike lanes and some sidewalk sections intermittently throughout the project on the south (business) side of the street. Occasional lane section closures and manual (flagger) intersection monitoring will also occur. The project started with initial exploratory work this week and work will continue through April and June with an anticipated completion date of July 12, 2019.
Very soon after the Electric Department completes this work, and possibly even with some overlap, the City’s Public Works Department will begin the complete roadway reconstruction of the total length of both East and West Hersey from North Main Street to North Mountain Avenue. This highly anticipated project will also incorporate the replacement and improvement of the railroad crossing at Hersey and Laurel Streets. Extensive lane closures and re-routing will occur over the duration of the project and future notifications will be provided to assist residents and businesses on construction related delays and impacts. This project is anticipated to be fully completed in the spring of 2020, but will remain drivable/usable throughout the project duration.
