Information and Referral/Assistance Specialist at the Ashland Senior Center
Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission (APRC) has entered into an intergovernmental agreement with Rogue Valley Council of Governments (RVCOG) under which RVCOG will be providing an Information and Referral/Assistance Specialist at the Ashland Senior Center. This position will be in place until the APRC receives the recommendations of the Ashland Senior Program Advisory Committee (ASPAC) in early 2018, adopts a revitalization plan for the Senior Program and hires Program staff.
Under the umbrella of RVCOG, the ADRC (Aging and Disability Resource Connection, of Oregon) has hired, trained and certified the Information and Referral/Assistance Specialist. This person will offer seniors up-to-date information and guidance on public and private services and programs that fit their particular situations.  The RVCOG specialist will be able to offer support in person or over the phone.
“This is an opportunity for APRC to connect people in our community with someone who has been trained in assisting in a wide range of matters related to aging and has a daily working knowledge of the current social services available within Southern Oregon,” stated Rachel Dials, Recreation Superintendent for APRC.
The specialist will work on Wednesdays at the Center, beginning on December 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will continue until permanent staff are hired.
No appointment is necessary for this new service. The position will be staffed on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Ashland Senior Center – 1699 Homes Ave.
“We are pleased to make this assistance available to Ashland seniors through a new partnership with RVCOG.  This new expert resource for seniors is one of the initial steps APRC is taking to broaden and enhance the services offered through our Senior Program,” said Michael A. Black, Director for APRC.
RVCOG oversees the Senior & Disability Services as well as the Food & Friends Program, a program that has been a staple at the Ashland Senior Center for over 17 years and has been continued without interruption.
