ASHLAND FOREST LANDS COMMISSION July 31, 2002 4:30 – 6:00 PM STUDY SESSION MINUTES MEMBERS PRESENT: Frank Betlejewski, Elizabeth Crosson, Stephen Jensen, Bill Robertson Members Absent: Richard Brock, Jo Anne Eggers, Anthony Kerwin, John Morrison (Council Liaison) Staff Present: Keith Woodley, Nancy Slocum, Karl Johnson CALL TO ORDER AT 4:35 PM ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION: A. Adoption of a Forest Lands Commission Glossary – Continued from the June 25, 2002 study session. Commission finished the review of terms. Commissioners Crosson and Betlejewski will bring back several definitions for consideration at the next meeting. The commission will then adopt the glossary at its next meeting. B. Continued Discussion of Stand Density Reduction on City Owned Forest Lands – Woodley asked if he could schedule a Council Study Session to discuss this issue. Robertson said the commission would set a date at the end of the August 14th discussion. Further dialogue was tabled until the next meeting. OTHER BUSINESS August 4, 2002 field trip – Because only two commissioners could attend the field trip, it was decided to postpone it until Saturday, August 17th conditioned upon availability of tour guide, Steve Armitage. The site visit will begin at 7:00 AM and end at 11:00AM. Interested parties will meet at the Council Chamber parking lot. The tour will cover the Woodrat (Jacksonville) area showing specific examples of before and after stand treatment. In addition the commission will visit the site of the July 2002 Log Town fire site where the one can see the effects of fire on treated acres. Robertson will look into renting a van to accommodate the commission, interested council members and members of the public. ADJOURNED AT 6:20 PM
