TOUR OF CLAY STREET PROPERTY

MINUTES

September 4, 2008

ATTENDANCE

Present:         Commissioners Eggers, Gardiner, Lewis, Noraas, Rosenthal; Director Robertson; Superintendent Gies

Absent:       City Council Liaison Navickas; Superintendent Teige

CALL TO ORDER

Gardiner called the tour to order at 10:15 a.m. at the Clay Street property site.

TOUR OF CLAY STREET PROPERTY

Robertson welcomed all in attendance, including commissioners, staff, and neighbors of both the Westwood and Clay Street properties. He displayed a draft site map of the 10-acre parcel of land adjacent to the YMCA park—showing wetlands, pond, and property lines—and said the additional land might allow for the reorientation of the YMCA park and fields and provide new and improved access points for residents along Clay Street.

Brandon Goldman, City of Ashland Planner, said the land, if purchased and developed by the city, would include affordable housing units.

Discussion Among Commissioners

Commissioners spoke of the value of the land in terms of its high priority on the Open Space land acquisition list and questioned the need for additional soccer fields in light of the changing demographics within the City of Ashland.

ADJOURNMENT – By consensus, Gardiner adjourned the tour at 11:05 a.m.
