1.                CALL TO ORDER:                   9:50 AM

2.                APPROVAL OF MINUTES:      September 4, 2007, minutes approved as written.

3.                Public Forum:

4.      OLD BUSINESS:

A.               Airport Open House Comments

Wise reported that there were approximately 80-90 helicopter rides given during the day and that Brim Aviation ran out of food for the BBQ.  Lots of interest and calls were received.  Max Hamilton was a huge help with his parking directions.  Clark Hamilton was instrumental in helping Wise plan and organize the events.

The commission was grateful to Brim Aviation and especially Brittany for all their efforts in putting together the event.  The effort should always be made to create beneficial public relations for the airport.

Next year’s event is already being planned.  Commission discussed dates for the event and decided on Saturday, May 31st.  Later in the summer becomes too hectic and busy because of fire season.  Zeve suggested doing a goodwill neighbor campaign next year prior to the event.

Commission discussed other fund raising events that could be done to help with more community involvement.  A subcommittee may be formed to discuss the activities closer to the event.

B.               Ben Linder Development

Leases are still under review by City staff prior to being mailed to Lindner for execution.  Lamb will bring back comments from in-house.

C.               Burl Brim Development – Update

Wise discussed adding a sign that gives direction to the Brim Aviation hangar to make it easier to identify.  Staff will work with them to do a sign permit.  Commissioners also asked if the sign in the front of the airport could be updated and if riders for each business could be added.  The sign replacement will need to be discussed with the facilities department.  Staff will bring back a feasibility and cost.

D.              SuperAWOS Update

The system has been ordered and should arrive before the next meeting date.  This installation will increase airport safety and usability by ten fold.  Commissioners will be made aware when it is installed and operational.  The website will need to be linked to the airport website.

E.               Strategic Plan Assignments

1.      Zoning ordinance – the Tree Commission offered help with vegetation issues when the draft is ready for review.

2.      Web Page – Lobaugh recently ran statistics and there were over 3000 hits to the website.  The web cam to the south seems to be malfunctioning.  Skinner will physically check the camera.

4.     NEW BUSINESS:

A.               FAA Project List Update to ODA

A revised list of the anticipated estimated costs and scheduling for the next twenty years of CIP projects was sent to the FAA and ODA.  The commission asked what the installation of runway vertical and visual guidance systems referred to and why it appeared numerous times.  The numbers and items that staff revised were agreeable to the commission.  The list will be used to identify items for inclusion for grant programs like the Entitlement Grant, Airport Improvement Projects and Federal Aid to Municipalities Grant.

Skinner was contacted by the ODA asking if the Ashland Airport would be interested in being a study airport for an instrument approach installation.  If the ODA chooses the airport to participate in the program the commission supports the addition.

B.               Paul Westerman Resignation

Zeve asked commissioners to contact interested people who may want to join the commission.  Prior applicants from the last opening may be resurrected.

5.               AIRPORT MANAGER REPORT/FBO REPORT/AIRPORT ASSOCIATION:

A.               Status of Airport, Financial Report, Review of Safety Reports

The airport has been steady.  Gas prices are still on the rise.

DeBoer and Skinner have been researching a hangar door used on the Medford Air hangar in Medford.  The door has been removed and laying next to their hangar for some time now.  Skinner has asked if it would be possible to purchase or have the door donated to Skinner Aviation.  The door is an 80 foot clamshell door that would need to be retrofitted on to the maintenance hangar.  If an agreement can be reached, Skinner will contact staff.

B.               Maintenance Updates –  Peters has sent samples of carpet to Skinner for color choice.  The carpet will be ordered and installed in the next couple months.
