MINUTES FOR THE CONTINUED MEETING
ASHLAND CITY COUNCIL
June 21, 2000
Civic Center Council Chambers, 1175 East Main Street

CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Shaw called the meeting to order at 12:40 p.m.

ROLL CALL Council present: Councilors Laws, Reid, Hauck, Hanson, and Fine.
Staff present: City Administrator Mike Freeman, Assistant City Administrator Greg Scoles, Public Works Director Paula Brown.

NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS
Continued discussion regarding aggregate re-zoning application.

Scoles noted that Director of Community Development John McLaughlin was unavailable as he was attending another meeting. Scoles explained that McLaughlin had been unable to confer with Jackson County Planning and Development because they are closed Wednesday mornings. Scoles stated that McLaughlin had indicated that the comment period has already closed on this matter and a letter would likely have little effect.

Scoles noted that Joe Charter, who had spoken before the council last night, had indicated that the County would have the option of re-opening the record to accept a submission from the council. Scoles stated that he could not judge whether this was in fact the County’s policy.

Scoles suggested that the draft letter before council could be reworked and sent. Reid and Shaw indicated that the draft letter was acceptable, but they indicated that it should be signed from the Mayor and Council.

Scoles noted that he and McLaughlin had spoken about this matter, and they feel that having this aggregate resource identified and inventoried is appropriate. Scoles continued that they do feel there is an issue with changing the zoning, and the council may want to make comment even if the comment period has officially closed.

Council discussion of whether the wording of the letter be given "more velocity."

Councilors Hauck/Reid m/s that the draft letter be sent to the Jackson County Board of Commissioners, using the existing wording and indicating that it is from the Mayor at the request of the Council. Voice vote: All AYES. Motion passed.

ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
