Friendly reminder to appropriately manage and dispose of yard debris

It’s that time of year and the leaves are beginning to fall.  The City of Ashland is asking residents to appropriately manage and dispose of yard debris. The dumping of yard debris especially fall leaves into the Ashland Canal or into the street and storm drain systems can clog the system, create localized flooding incidents and also contribute to poor water quality. The canal and storm drain systems are not disposal sites. Please help us keep the watershed clean by collecting your yard debris and disposing of it properly.
Street sweeping is not a leaf pick-up program. Property owners are responsible for removing and disposing of fallen leaves on their property and adjacent sidewalks and should not blow or rake leaves into the street. Recology Ashland offers a Pre-Paid Leaf Bag Program during the fall season each year. You can purchase leaf only bags at the Recology Ashland Sanitary Service office at 170 Oak St. in Ashland. Place leaf bags on the curb on trash pickup day during GREEN DEBRIS & RECYCLE week. Call Recology Ashland Sanitary Service at (541) 482-1471 for more information.
In addition, Recology offers free leaf collection days. This year you can drop off your leaf debris on either November 8th or December 13th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Ashland Recycle Center, located at 220 Water Street. There will also be an additional drop off day on November 15th at the Talent City Hall, located at 110 E. Main Street in Talent from 9:00 am - to 4:00 pm.

Keeping leaves out of the street is a simple but important action we can all take to help improve water quality in our streams. The distance between your yard and the water’s edge is as close as the nearest storm drain or ditch. Everyone can help maintain the health of our streams by keeping the leaves out of the street and storm drains.
