City Administrator's Report by Adam Hanks, Interim City Administrator

October 20, 2020
The City Administrator’s Report showcases current events facing the City externally and internally since the last Council meeting, while highlighting City accomplishments.
Ashland is Featured on the Oregon Film Trail

Coraline Oregon Film Trail Sign Wild Oregon Film Trail Sign
The City was approached by Oregon Film who has worked with Film Southern Oregon and the Digital Cinema Program at Southern Oregon University about installing two signs in Ashland for the Oregon Film Trail. The project is a collaborative effort by these organizations and was paid for with grant funding from Travel Oregon and the City of Ashland.

The signs highlight the 2014 film Wild which included scenes in the downtown Plaza and the animated feature Coraline as Ashland inspired the setting of the film. The sign for Wild can be found on the Downtown Plaza and the sign for Coraline is located at the corner of Pioneer Street and East Main Street in front of OSF's Black Swan Theatre.

We are excited to be a part of the Oregon Film Trail and also be named a "best place to live and work as a moviemaker" by MovieMaker Magazine. For more information on the Oregon Film Trail and those who made it happen, read the full press release here.

Election Reminders from Jackson County

As there is much interest in this year's election and how to vote safely, the City had previously reached out to the Jackson County Clerk, Christine Walker, who provided some good reminders for everyone voting this year.

Ashland's official ballot drop-box is located behind the Ashland Public Library at 410 Siskiyou Boulevard. Currently, the alley way off of Gresham Street has been turned into a one-way allowing vehicles to enter off of Gresham Street and exit off of Union Street. As the area is still small and has limited parking, we recommend that you drop off your ballot when the library is closed or walk instead. The library is open only Saturday through Thursday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

We also asked the Clerk if additional ballot drop-boxes could be implemented. The County did not provide additional official ballot boxes for this year and while allowed does not recommend having unofficial ballot drop boxes due to the lack of security and the fact that all ballots must be in an official ballot drop box or at the County Elections office by 8 p.m. on November 3.

Another reminder is that all ballots include a postage paid envelope that can be sent through the USPS mail boxes. If you are planning on voting early, you can utilize the mail. Jackson County works closely with the local USPS postal processing facility throughout the election cycle.

The Maximum allowed credit is $300.00 for either group.
