Fall in the Field Community Programs

Have you signed up your family for a Fall in the Field Community Program? Learn about the Birding biodiversity of the Southern Oregon region as you explore natural history with your kids! Fall in the Field provides place-based environmental education through day hikes and residential camps. Ashland Parks and Recreation has teamed with Southern Oregon University to offer these programs at a low cost.

The programs are provided by graduate students pursuing a Master of Science in Environmental Education from Southern Oregon University. Register Today!
 
Fall in the Field - All About Birds!
Participants wills use binoculars (provided) to observe and record birds and their adaptations while on a scavenger hunt. Families will think about and discuss the importance of birds and learn different ways to care for local bird populations. Come with a sense of adventure and be dressed for the weather. Porta potties available on site. All program supplies will be provided. Pre-register online or call the North Mountain Park Nature Center at 541.488.6606.
WHO: Families with children ages 6 & up
WHAT: Learn all about birds at Ashland Pond with hands-on activities for the whole family
INSTRUCTOR: Instructors are graduate students in the Environmental Education program at Southern Oregon University.

Fall in the Field: Pondiversity
Participants will learn about the source of Ashland Pond, explore the diversity of plants and animals there and use a nature journal to map and describe what they find. Families should come with a sense of adventure, bring their own water and be dressed for the weather. Porta potties available on site.  All program supplies will be provided. Pre-register online or call the North Mountain Park Nature Center at 541.488.6606.

WHAT: Learn all about the diversity of life at Ashland Pond with hands-on activities for the whole family

Fall in the Field - Water is Life
Participants will investigate the interconnections between Ashland Pond, the regional watershed and what they mean for the area's biodiversity. Participants will engage in thinking about the role of water in the ecosystem of Ashland Pond, while learning about and exploring the pond and surrounding creeks. Families should come with a sense of adventure and be dressed for the weather. Porta potties available on site. All program supplies will be provided. Pre-register online or call the North Mountain Park Nature Center at 541.488.6606.

WHAT: Learn how water shapes our lives and the lives of all living creatures in our watershed, with hands-on activities for the whole family
