Ashland Fire & Rescue’s Community Emergency Response Team and the Mountain Meadows Emergency Preparedness and Safety Committee partner for a mock wildfire evacuation drill.

The Mountain Meadows Emergency Preparedness and Safety Committee (EPSC) has been working diligently to plan for a major evacuation of their community in the event of a wildfire or other threats. Mountain Meadows consists of 225 residential units in the 55+ single family and condominium-type housing community. The EPSC provides support to the residents regarding what to do in various types of emergencies. The Committee at Mountain Meadows will test their emergency plan Saturday, September 21 with guidance from the Ashland Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). CERT volunteers will evaluate the process and progress of a community-wide evacuation at Mountain Meadows. The EPSC will implement the process they’ve developed in assisting the whole-community in a simulated wildfire evacuation.
Created in 1999 after the community experienced a severe flood on New Year day 1997, Ashland's CERT program has trained more than 880 volunteers to be better prepared during disaster, making Ashland's CERT program one of the most successful in the nation, according to CERT officials.
