Plaza Sidewalk Work Begins Monday, April 29th

We are excited to begin work on the Plaza Sidewalk.  Work will begin on Monday, April 29th with City crews removing the first two phases of concrete, followed by the contractor coming in later in the week.  There are 4 phases in all and work will be completed by the end of June.  The Parks Department will follow along and inspect and correct sprinkler systems and reestablish grass and shrubs.

For the first two phases, the loop around the Plaza will be closed to allow the contractor to stage  materials and complete the work (red cross hatch and red rectangle).  Work involves City crews removing concrete and asphalt around what will be the new sidewalk; and the contractor grading and prepping for new sidewalk, curb and gutter. During this phase of construction, the Zagster bike racks, public bike racks, and bike repair stations will be moved to the concrete section directly across from City Hall. The bus shelter and service will remain in place during this time.  City crews will come in and replace the asphalt against the new curb and gutter after the new concrete is cured.  This will all take about a month – requiring the parking and loop to be closed through the end of May.

Phases three and four (dark blue rectangle) will require closure of the parking directly across from City Hall entry, but we are anticipating being able to keep the traffic flowing the majority of the time.  The fourth phase is at the top of the island and traffic will be closed for a short time to facilitate the ADA ramps and crossing at that south end. During this phase of construction, the Zagster bike racks, public bike racks, and bike repair stations will be moved back to their permanent location.  Also during this phase, the bus shelter will be relocated – likely to the bridge at Ashland Creek (to be confirmed at that time).
