Procession Route Announced

PROCESSION ROUTE ANNOUNCED FOR OFFICER WILLIAMS CELEBRATION OF LIFE CEREMONY

A motorcade procession involving family and emergency response vehicles, in honor of Ashland Police Department Malcus Williams, is scheduled to begin Saturday, March 17, at 9:30 a.m.. The public will not be allowed to ride in the procession, but is encouraged to show their support by lining the streets along the route.

The procession route is expected to include over a hundred public safety vehicles. The following is the exact route of the procession from Southern Oregon University through downtown and back to the Ashland High School for the celebration of life service(a map of the route is included.)

-From S. Mountain Ave. turn left onto Siskiyou Blvd. (Hwy. 99)
-Travel on Siskiyou Blvd. to the split where Siskiyou Blvd. becomes Lithia Way
-Travel on Lithia Way to the end of the downtown split at Helman St.
-Make a left onto Church St. and a quick Left onto E. Main St. back toward SOU
-Travel on E. Main St. until it becomes Siskiyou Blvd.
-Continue on Siskiyou Blvd. to Ashland High School.

During the procession, area travelers should be prepared for road closures, traffic congestion and long delays along the route and around the city of Ashland, especially on Hwy 99 in the downtown core.

If you are planning on driving in these areas between the hours of 9:00 am through 11:00 a.m. for the procession or shortly after the estimated end of the ceremony at about 1:00 pm, we encourage you to take an alternative route or delay traveling until the events have ended.

Members of the public attending the event are encouraged to carpool, walk, or ride a bicycle. Parking will be limited. Parking is available on the Southern Oregon University campus. SOU has suspended parking fees for the duration of the event, all parking on the campus will be free. Any of the university's parking lots are available to the public except lot 36 which will be used only for emergency vehicles.
